ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My background in photography spans over fifty years of picture-taking and darkroom processing.  I began using simple Kodak box cameras to start, and over time, moved into 35mm, 2 ¼ x 2 ¼  and 4 x 5 formats.  For most of my career I concentrated on the black and white process with a special interest in high contrast photography. With the advent of the graphics computer, Adobe Photoshop software, and more recently, the digital camera, I have expanded my technical ability to develop color printing and collage-making as a specialty.  I consider myself a printmaker who uses the photograph as a vehicle to create layered images, much like silk-screen artists of my generation.  Some of my works are politically motivated, or influenced by the culture or nature of my subject matter.
